Celebrating Leadership, Growth, and Innovation: Highlights from SWN’s Annual Meeting at Great Wolf Lodge

Curious about how workforce development directly supports your career growth or business needs? The Susquehanna Workforce Network’s (SWN) annual meeting at Great Wolf Lodge brought professionals, community advocates, and business leaders together to tackle those issues. This inspiring event shined a light on the strides SWN has made in connecting job seekers with meaningful opportunities while helping local businesses build thriving teams.

From celebrating key accomplishments to unveiling exciting innovations in job training, the day was filled with purpose, progress, and big ideas for the future. Let’s dive into the highlights!

A Warm Welcome and Gratitude for Community Support

SWN took a moment to give heartfelt thanks to their event sponsors, like the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 24, Harford Community College, The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region, Cecil College, and philanthropists like Don Mathis, who show us how much collaboration matters for progress.

Workforce Achievements and Goals

Kim Justus, SWN’s Executive Director, shared an insightful update during breakfast about the region’s workforce gains over the last year. She highlighted new training opportunities, impactful community partnerships, and strategies that helped job seekers and employers. Staying ahead of the curve is key to creating programs that truly meet the needs of workers and businesses as they evolve.

Virtual Reality: The Future of Job Training

As a Vice President at Transfr VR, Jackie Smalls, the keynote speaker, brought fresh energy with her presentation on using virtual reality (VR) for workforce training. Imagine practicing job skills—like welding, operating equipment, or customer service—in a safe virtual space before stepping into your new role.

For job seekers, this means new opportunities to train effectively and land jobs faster.

Celebrating Leadership and Excellence

Cecil County Executive Adam Streight honored Chick Hamm for his years of dedication to the Workforce Development Board. Additionally, Mary Ann Bogarty handed over the role of Board President to Jeanne Beaman, whose passion for inclusion and empowerment perfectly suits her new leadership role.

Awards were also given out, recognizing individuals for their outstanding contributions:

  • Five-Star Awards were presented to Julie Brown, Belinda Miller, and Mary Ann Bogarty for their exceptional service.
  • Special Recognition: Matt Jackson received commendation for his decade of commitment to SWN’s board.
